Artist's Description
From Gary Bernstein: "Johnny Carson was a friend and a client. We saw eye to eye on just about everything and I photographed him for so many different clients from Hart, Schaffner and Marx (for Johnny Carson Clothing) to NBC for the Tonight Show; and I shot his family images as well. We always worked at one of his houses and indeed, they were houses to be reckoned with ;). Carson--as you might imagine--was just hilarious; and if you think he was funny when he had to deal with network censors--just imagine the man uncensored. I had to take laugh breaks. This particular image (which is part of a forthcoming series) in which Johnny gives me "the salute," was made after a fashion shoot for his line of clothing. The entire story will be reserved for the book ;)."
